Web DM Podcast 242- Community Qs
Added 2022-05-20 16:42:52 +0000 UTCHey hey DMNs! We've got a Jim n' Rudy podcast for you today, and we concentrate on questions, many of which come from the Community Tab, which Patreon doesn't really notify us about when it updates and also makes it unduly difficult to access, so if you feel like you've been screaming into the void there, I sincerely apologize.
We've got some fun stuff here! Also Rudy called Jim a horse boy and I (emma) laughed and laughed. Have a great weekend and keep the Q's coming!!!
Here's some time stamps for you:
8:56 - Bobby Swanson: Can we get a recap of how Jim ran Tales from the Infinite Staircase using the Cypher system? I’ve been getting into cypher after hearing Jim and Pruitt rave about it for years. Jim, I’m curious how you went about converting a DnD adventure into the Cypher system and how it played vs playing a DnD adventure with DnD rules? I know there are stat blocks for dragons, orcs, etc but how did you create/run more unique monsters from the module? Were there any challenges in using Cypher for a big DnD style game?
15:33 - Joe Sturla: D&D is committed to using dice to provide randomness in game. Are there any other ways you would recommend? Are there any games that use other randomizers, like cards? How would you recommend using cards in play?
24:34 - Ginge: Had a question about traveling between locations in relation to the local government and level of control. For instance, would a nation-state generally have safer (or at least less lethal) travel between cities in areas of its control when compared to travel between two city-states who’s control does not extend as far?
36:15 - Rachel Hotchkiss: I've been co-running a player led sandbox campaign for 7 months. Now reaching level 7 some of my pcs are about to wrap up their reasons to adventure. Already my pcs are very powerful in this world at level 7 and I'm having problems coming up with how to introduce new pcs for them to play. It might be a "fake immersion problem" but I don't want it to seem like random very powerful people just pop up out of nowhere. Do you have any advice? Should I just let them come in with a lower level pc? Or is this maybe a problem that doesn't need to be addressed because they are interested in playing the new character.
44:25 - Black Gesso: What do you do in those moments where your players want to do something that is utterly plausible, but the system you're playing in doesn't give you any clear guidance and your ruling could ruin the fun of the encounter?
