It's time for the October idea submission session to see what we can get for this months exclusive tutorial.

On the 13th of this month, I will gather all the ideas together and shortlist the ones that I think can be beneficial for everyone, then I'll put up a poll for you to vote on. Try to think about some techniques you'd like to learn, new methods and maybe even consider tutorial ideas on the thinking behind design and the thought process etc.

2022-10-11 15:15:27 +0000 UTCFor me personally, it's not really about 'knowing what shape I want to put down from my head' because I don't know. Which in my videos you'll see that even I play around, sketch and experiment with different shapes. It always helps to know what type of scene you 'might' want to paint so that idea can help you figure out what kind of shapes you might want to play with. I do this every single day, so naturally these things will come a bit faster and seem natural for me. Regarding compositions, yes I think the rule of 3 can work to start off with, utilise that along side the foreground/midground/background. Have a serious look at photographers photo work and look at what works and what makes it look so good. The more you see, the more you understand. This is basically how I started off and it has taken me over 6+ years to get to this point.

2022-10-09 23:28:07 +0000 UTCThese are all great ideas. But I follow you and joined Your Patreon because I want to learn how to paint as you do. Or as close as I can. Then I’ll figure out how to incorporate that into my own style. I’m sure the brushes will help, but I’m still not sure where/how to download them. But I think doing brushwork as you do is the key for me. I see you fill in texture on mountains or add clouds. You have this pattern of add, then erasing and then adding again. I’m sure practice and the right brushes will help. But truthfully I don’t know what you’re looking for as you do this or what I should be looking for as I work. I don’t go to art school, so I’m not sure what to call this. But that’s something I’d love to see. If you already did a tutorial on this, maybe you can tell me and I can buy it on gum road. Thanks so much! '

[esp when you're low on time and energy] • Alternatively, for this spooky month, maybe how to create a glowy effects in dark settings. ('milky seas' and 'yosemite firefall' are examples that comes to mind. And that haunted castle atmostphere mentioned by nekomyco is neat too)

So I was wondering if you could do a tutorial/thought process on how to make a scene revolving around volcanoes in a very rocky/fiery setting? With some kind of structure like a castle or a temple? Like a lava/rock type area set in a fantasy world. It would be so cool to see how the color scheme and setting all come together to get that dark and ominous feel to the finished work!

2022-10-06 20:43:57 +0000 UTCHey, I've seen several comments under your tutorials that mention this subject, but bear with me as I haven't come up with a crystal clear question yet. I'm not new to art, nor illustration, but I'm new to environments (thus my sub !!). When I watch you work (edited, I know), you make it look really easy to just throw down some shapes and it looks like a mountain. Now, even when I'm working with references, I simply cannot recreate that process. As a summary of the comments I've seen, they tend to ask how you know what shape to put down, from in your head, and know that it will deffo be a mountain. I am probably doing this topic no justice at all. I'm also very aware that sometimes it's just artists magic that makes it happen. Yet, I'm also aware there are several composition rules (rule of 3, layer caking etc) that you maybe working to, (unintentionally??)??? Or do you have tried and tested compositions that just work for you that you use more than other? Please, please, if you want to pick my brain over this, drop me a line no probs. Or don't. If you understand this shambles of a message you're a better man than I!!!

2022-10-06 14:52:47 +0000 UTCI'm new and in the beginning of working through both Patreon and YouTube content, but off the top of my head, I'd love to know about proportioning techniques and tricks when painting something that's mystical like a dragon or a new character/species in your mind? For example, using the head of the dragon to determine the width and height or letting certain features fall into parallel lines with other features. Things that help make something unseen feel very real. Oh! Also a bit of depth perception and playing with the colors to make the viewer/observer feel like they can walk right into the vastness of the art. As if the art were a portal and you could Super Mario 64 jump in.
