What to expect from future updates (v2.x.x)?
Added 2023-09-06 17:10:56 +0000 UTCThe vector is clear: more transparent development, peaceful coexistence with platforms, consideration of user suggestions, more supported platforms, more languages, more useful features, improved stability and fixes for rare bugs.

Transparent development also means a transparent roadmap - a development plan, which is already available on canny.io.
Now you can keep track of what we are currently working on, participate in discussions and vote for what you would like to see in the future!
What are our plans for future releases?
The remaining extension modules are currently being adapted to support Omegle. This means that very soon omegle will have support for:
- blacklist
- stats
- hotkeys
- faceapi (gender recognition)
- streamer mode
After adapting the extension code for Omegle, we plan to improve support for this platform based on community suggestions and developer ideas.
These ideas are currently in the works:
- [Omegle] Autoskip delay customization
- [Omegle] Ability to cancel auto-skip
- Other ideas that people like you can suggest on canny.io
Localization system.
We plan to rework the localization system to add support for more than just two languages. To do this, we will have to rework some big parts of the extension, completely rework the English text, and integrate a localization platform that people can use to suggest translations in their own language.
We already have German, Turkish, Ukrainian and Indonesian localizations planned with native speakers from the community willing to contribute to the translation. In the future it will be possible to quickly integrate other translations provided by the community!
The following 'simple' tasks will be implemented in parallel:
- Omegle: social experiment - system to give likes/dislikes to strangers and skip people with bad ratios.
- COMC: confirmation on skip if you talked for more than N seconds.
- COMC: feature to look for people whose country doesn't match their geolocation - immigrants, liars.
- COMC: feature to auto-skip countries based on the video chat country (not geolocation).
There are plans to integrate a local engine database in the future.
This will allow the extension to store large amounts of data about your conversations. The data will never leave your device and this will allow us to implement the following ideas:
- a rework of the statistics module
- a rework of the blacklist module. Suggestions from the community will be taken into account: A separate button to add to the blacklist, Undo last ban, Export banned list.
- creating a note about your stranger
- checking if you already met this stranger before
- list of your last conversations with their date and duration
- a special world map where you can see with whom and when you communicated
There are lower priority tasks that we still plan to spend hundreds of hours on:
- finding and fixing rare bugs
- researching new platforms (suggested by the community on canny) and adding basic support for them.
- better support for mobile devices
- code refactoring, optimization of individual modules
- automatic testing system
- privacy-focused analytics system
- incident/news notification system
- backend server status page
- system to track changes on supported sites
- seo for project site, search engines should respect it
- update store listing, site text and github
- integrate canny.io into the project's discord
- add legacy implemented ideas to canny and link them to releases
- other tasks from user suggestions.
If you are interested in these changes, consider supporting this project on Patreon!
This will provide you with the best geolocation accuracy possible and will ensure independent and stable development of the Videochat Extension project!
At the end of each month, we will publish a big post with a progress report for our patrons.
It should be noted that by 'we' I mean the developer and the community combined. There is only one person doing the actual development (me, qrlk) and one other person on the team helping with testing and various maintenance tasks.
I've been doing this project almost alone in my free time for the last 2.5 years and plan to continue for years to come, but it will still be just a hobby project with no sane way to monetize it, so it has to rely on its community support on Patreon.
Your support will give motivation to the team and allow the developer to dedicate much more time to this project, while covering server and development costs!
